NRA Foundation license plates a success in Ohio

NRA Foundation license plates have been available for one month, and Ohio residents have begun to proudly display them on their personal vehicles.

Buckeye Firearms supporter Chris Chumita was the first to order the new NRA plates at his BMV office, and one of the first in the entire state. Some have expressed concern that they would not be treated properly while asking for NRA plates, but Chris’ experience has been typical. Said Chris, “There were no issues, weird looks, or snide comments. The new NRA Foundation license plates were mailed to me in less than a week. It was actually a pleasant visit to the BMV!”

Fred Stratmann of the Ohio BMV told Buckeye Firearms Association that “the NRA Foundation plate did have better first-month sales than several new plates this year.” That is good news, especially considering that December is traditionally a slow month for plate sales.

Because I needed to save the time of visiting my BMV, and I wanted to renew during non-business hours, I renewed my plates online at Oplates.com. Even though I ordered my plates just before Christmas, they still arrived in about a week. Whether renewing online or in person, each person I talked to was pleased with the process and the product.

Even if your license plate is not up for renewal, you can exchange your current plate for an NRA plate by clicking “Exchange” on the left side of the BMV web site. There is a nominal cost for the exchange, but it is not prohibitive.

Those choosing to purchase NRA plates will be charged an extra fee, and the state will contribute $15 to the NRA Foundation. This is a great way to show your support for the NRA and all proceeds the NRA receives from this program will be spent right here in Ohio.

Even though this is a quick and easy process, I took advantage of the BMV’s two year option. I will not need to do anything next year as my new NRA plates are now valid until 2008!
