CHL-holder stops armed robbery outside Dayton Mall
Dayton's NBC affiliate, WDTN, is reporting that an Ohio concealed handgun license (CHL) -holder was able to protect himself and a friend during an attempted armed robbery outside Dayton Mall on Saturday.
According to the article, three juvenile males approached two adult men outside the Dayton Mall at 10:00 a.m. Saturday morning. One of the juveniles produced a gun and demanded newly purchased limited-edition athletic shoes from their intended victims.
Police say one of the intended victims had a valid carry concealed handgun license. He pulled out a gun of his own and shot the teen who had the gun. That teen, identified in the article as Jawaad Jabbar, 16, died from a single gunshot wound.
Police say two juvenile males are being held at the Montgomery County Juvenile Intervention Center awaiting formal charges.
According to WHIO.com, Miami Twp. Sgt. Rex Thompson called the event “a random act that can happen anywhere in this day and age,” and advised people to stay alert when out in public.
“Pay attention to your surroundings,” he said. “Know who’s around you. Know who’s beside you, who’s behind you at all times.”
