Submitted by cbaus on Thu, 07/24/2008 - 00:05.The Columbus Dispatch is reporting that a lawyer who made a name for himself in the 1990s prosecuting drug dealers and baseball legend Pete Rose will be the Republican candidate for Ohio attorney general in November.
Headline: Second Amendment Talk Highlights First Shot Ceremony
Submitted by cbaus on Mon, 07/14/2008 - 00:10.The Ottawa County Beacon is reporting that attendees to the First Shot Ceremony for the 2008 National Rifle and Pistol Championships at Camp Perry were treated to more than just a band concert, a parachute jump that delivered the American Flag and a fly-over by a pair of F-16's from the 180th Ohio National Guard Tactical Fighter Wing from Toledo. They were also treated to a celebration of the Second Amendment by some of Ohio's elected officials.
Erie County concealed handgun license-holder cleared of all charges
Submitted by cbaus on Mon, 07/07/2008 - 00:10.Buckeye Firearms Association is pleased to report that an Erie County concealed handgun license (CHL) -holder recently had all pending felony charges against him dismissed by the Prosecutor. In order to protect this innocent man’s identity, he will not be identified by name, and identifiable items will be deleted from this story. We will simply refer to this person as Publius.
Publius is an Ohio CHL living in or near Erie County. Sometime last year, Publius was the victim of a “man with a gun” phone call to the police. Publius was sitting in his vehicle in the parking lot of his wife’s store when a passerby noticed the handgun in the car. At no point did the passerby observe or report any suspicious activity, and the nature of the call to the police was simply “man with a gun.” No allegations of panic, criminal behavior or other nefarious acts.
The police responded and saw Publius’ vehicle outside the store. Publius then, having picked up his wife from work, pulled out and headed home. The police pulled in behind Publius and ran his license plate, which came back to a valid CHL matching Publius’ physical description. All of this is undisputed.
The police then conducted a full felony stop on Publius’ vehicle, after they knew he was a valid CHL.
Another one bites the dust: Anti-gun politicians drop out of special election for Ohio Attorney General
Submitted by cbaus on Wed, 06/11/2008 - 00:10.By Chad D. Baus
In the past few weeks, articles written by myself and Buckeye Firearms Association Legislative Chair Ken Hanson have attempted to sound the warning on storm clouds which were gathering over this fall's special election for Ohio Attorney General, due to the names being floated by both parties - former Senator Mike DeWine and current Lt. Gov. Lee Fisher in particular.
This week, it appears the clouds may have a chance of lifting, or at least shifting to a different part of the political atmosphere.
City of Cincinnati: "The laws, like taxes, are for the little people"
Submitted by cbaus on Wed, 06/04/2008 - 00:10.Editor's Note: The Cincinnati Enquirer has published an edited version of this op-ed ed, entitled "City should conform to law on concealed carry".
By Jeff Riley
- Leona Helmsley, "The Queen of Mean"
It appears that the City of Cincinnati, through their inaction, has updated and revised Leona's original phrase.
The law is for you to obey, but not for them.
Storm Clouds Gather Over Ohio Attorney General Election
Submitted by cbaus on Fri, 05/30/2008 - 00:10.By Ken Hanson, Esq.
This November, Buckeyes will head to the poll to elect a new Attorney General. This election is being held without the customary year-long primary campaigns, due to the nature and timing of the resignation of Marc Dann. As a result, a small group of men and women hold the future of your gun rights in their hands. Chances are very good that you do not know any of these men and women, and you certainly did not vote for them.
Governor Strickland tells FOP where to stick it on gun bill; Republicans should do the same
Submitted by cbaus on Wed, 05/21/2008 - 15:33.By Chad D. Baus
Grassroots pro-gun groups have a bill under consideration in the Statehouse, and elitist union leaders at the Fraternal Order of Police are opposed. Deja vu all over again?
Not so fast.
Gun owners have reason to hope, because this time around, we have a Democrat in the Governor's office.
Yes, you read that on a pro-gun website.
GUN OWNERS CAN BE THANKFUL THAT DEMOCRAT TED STRICKLAND IS OUR GOVERNOR.
Police union aims to seize your rights
Submitted by jirvine on Tue, 05/20/2008 - 23:00.By Jim Irvine
The Ohio Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) will be holding a press conference on Wednesday to protest Ohio’s law abiding citizens' firearms rights. Date and time are yet to be announced, but they have made it clear that they will do whatever they can to prevent your rights from being restored.
While the vast majority of the rank and file officers support you and your rights, the FOP, led by their Legislative Chairman Mark Drum, does not. This extreme and out of touch organization is brow beating your legislature and Governor over an amendment that restores your rights.
City of Cincinnati defiantly flaunts state law
Submitted by cbaus on Mon, 05/19/2008 - 00:05.By Jeff Riley
Regular readers of the Buckeye Firearms site are well aware of crimes occurring in the State of Ohio and local city/municipal parks year after year.
Some recent instances include the following:
In late April a man was stabbed in the face in a Toledo park at the conclusion of an evening jog. Just over a week later a woman was kidnapped from the Equestrian Center of the Lorain County Metro Parks' Carlisle Reservation, raped and shot in the back before being stuffed in the trunk of her own car. Just last week, a man released from prison just two weeks ago was charged with an attack in a Parma park.
With all the coverage in the media and in light of the change in firearms laws in March 2007 why is the City of Cincinnati openly defying State law by posting 'no guns' signs in city parks?
Marc Dann resigns amid scandal; Governor should appoint a pro-gun replacement
Submitted by cbaus on Fri, 05/16/2008 - 00:10.By Chad D. Baus
While it is now quite apparent from the ongoing sexual harrassment scandal that Democrat Marc Dann managed the office of Attorney General poorly over the past 17 months, many Ohio gun owners will no doubt still receive news of his resignation this week some sadness.
Thanks in large part to the hard work of Buckeye Firearms Association, the National Rifle Association, and pro-gun volunteers throughout the state, Marc Dann was narrowly elected in 2006 over the anti-gun, anti-self defense Republican Betty Montgomery, despite her having huge leads in every poll, huge leads in name recognition and a war chest more than double the size of Marc Dann.
During his short time in office, the pro-gun Democrat kept his campaign promises to gun owners.
