9 year-old book proves Ohio Highway Patrol/ Taft wrong
As we have been reporting for some time now, all indications are that the Ohio Highway Patrol will again offer to carry the water for Gov. Taft by opposing HB12 due to "officer safety" concerns, unless self-defense is banned in vehicles.
There has NEVER been an incident involving the threatening of an officer by a CCW permit-holder at a traffic stop (in 44 states!). On the other hand, there are hundreds of accounts of citizens coming to the aid of officers, and of defending their own lives when attacked in their vehicles. The evidence proves conclusively that theTaft/OHP policy opposing CCW in vehicles endangers the lives of citizens AND officers.
But this isn't new information. An excellent thesis was published in 1994 by Clayton E. Cramer & David B. Kopel in their book "SHALL ISSUE: THE NEW WAVE OF CONCEALED HANDGUN PERMIT LAWS”. This chapter handily refutes claims by Gov. Taft and the Ohio Highway Patrol, and can now be accessed in the OFCC PAC Educational Guide:
