"Already Been Dead"
House Bill 12 has been declared dead more times than Michael Jackson's music career. In June, hopeful headlines screamed:
AP: Concealed Carry Appears To Be Dead
Newest gun bill may fail as well
State says no deal on concealed guns
Five months later, HB12 has a conference committee, a plan for two issues to be settled on a compromise, and a coalition representing one quarter of a million angry Ohioans who are sick and tired of Taft going back on his word, and moving the goal line every time a deal gets close. We may also have Senate Republicans who, finally, share that sentiment.
NEW TAFT VETO THREAT MET WITH LEGISLATIVE DISBELIEF, DEFIANCE
So how are the state's two most liberal newspapers reporting Taft's latest machinations?
More of the same - hopeful headlines that, in time, will likely have been proven as false as those in June were:
Cleveland Plain Dealer: Concealed-gun effort may be disarmed
"Along with inciting the fury of his fellow Republicans, not to mention the powerful gun lobby, the governor has probably ended the eight-year crusade to allow Ohio residents to carry concealed weapons."
Dayton Daily News: Access-to-info issue could sink concealed-carry
