Anti-hunting PETA at work in the Buckeye State; Is your legislator helping?
By Chad D. Baus
The Middletown Journal is reporting that People For the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), a radical anti-hunting organization that has financially supported organizations identified by the Federal government as domestic terrorist groups, is making inroads in the Ohio legislature.
According to the story, it's not only the newspaper that is promoting PETA's legislative agenda.

From the story:
- ...While the number of animal cruelty cases appearing before judges seems to be on the rise locally, the punishments often don't fit the crimes, some animal rights advocates say.
"It takes a while for laws to be updated and fines to be increased, but hopefully it will be soon," said Kristin Dejournett, a cruelty case worker with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
The case involving Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick, who recently pleaded guilty to financing dogfighting, has increased awareness of animal cruelty "exponentially," Dejournett said.
State Sen. Gary Cates, R-West Chester Twp., said the legislature would be giving serious consideration to toughing laws on animal cruelty. Cates authored a bill currently in the senate that takes a look at puppy mills and monitors how dogs used for breeding are treated.
While no responsible hunter condones the pointless abuse of animals (such as the hypocracy exhibited when PETA employees destroyed animals "rescued" from animal shelters), it is a dangerous precedent to set when Ohio legislators open the door to allow PETA to define what consitutes "abuse." Legislation which may now serve to "monitor" dog breeders could one day be modified (as lawmakers backed by the radical animal rights groups in California are now doing) to make it impossible to breed popular sporting dogs.
Before agreeing to help move their agenda, Sen. Cates and his colleagues would do well to keep in mind the true agenda of PETA, which is the prohibition of all forms of hunting in the Buckeye State, and across the nation.
