Buckeye Firearms Assoc.'s Larry Moore honored during Sportsmen’s Celebration
The U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance (USSA) has recognized Jamestown sportsman (and long-time volunteer leader for this political action committee) Larry Moore as a champion of hunters’ rights and recently honored him with a Patriot Award.
Regular readers of this website will no doubt be familiar with commentary Moore has provided not only on hunting, but on a range of other issues.
The USSA, a leading sportsmen’s advocacy organization, presents Patriot Awards to Ohioans who are outstanding in their efforts to protect Ohio’s outdoor heritage. The USSA press release observes that Moore has been at the forefront of the sportsmen’s movement for years.
From the press release:
“As an outdoor writer, Larry Moore articulates sportsmen’s accomplishments, educates the public about sportsmen’s key role in wildlife conservation and mobilizes outdoorsmen to take grassroots action,” said USSA Director of State Services Tony Celebrezze. “This year, Moore’s advocacy led to the insertion of protective language in the state budget bill that ensures sportsmen’s dollars are used as intended for wildlife-related projects.”
Moore, a staunch supporter of the USSA, writes columns in the Xenia Daily Gazette, Fairborn Herald, and Beavercreek News. A hunter education instructor and member of the Outdoor Writers of Ohio, he graciously accepted his Patriot Award.
“I am flattered and grateful to have received the 2005 Patriot Award, and the nice words said about my efforts are sincerely appreciated,” said Moore. “Being recognized by an organization you respect is special, particularly when it is working as hard as or harder than I am for our successes.”
The Award presentation was part of the festivities during the USSA Ohio Committee 9th Annual Sportsmen’s Rally in Columbus. Nearly 500 Ohio conservation leaders and sportsmen were on hand for this year’s rally, which featured an evening of awards, games and fellowship and celebrated Ohio’s rich outdoor heritage. Rep. Steve Buehrer, who is a candidate for Ohio Senate District 1 and two-time PAC endorsee, was one of the other's to receive a Patriot Award.
When recapping his evening, Moore told his fellow volunteers at Buckeye Firearms Association that it was "very humbling and gratifying to be one of 3 people recognized with the USSA Patriot Award. A nice plaque, but the words they wrote about me - I had to wonder if they were talking about someone else. Being recognized by peers, a group you've worked hard and numerous issues going back into the 1970s, and the level of dedicated people there is indeed special."
We are extremely proud of the efforts Larry Moore has made to protect hunting and firearms rights in Ohio, and thankful for his contributions to the success of Buckeye Firearms Association.
