Basically that approach is to allow the carrying of a concealed handgun by person's possessing a concealed handgun license across all types of hunting. The concealed handgun is for self-protection purposes only and shall not be used in the taking of game. The Division proposal calls for the administrative code and rule changes to be effective for the fall deer hunting seasons.

We thank the Division of Wildlife for recognizing the Ohio CHL and working with sportsmen and Buckeye Firearms Association leaders to make the rule changes. The Division’s entire leadership team has been outstanding to work with. They have exhibited a sincere desire to work with sportsmen and address issues that are important to the average hunter. Using their knowledge and experience they are demonstrating what good leadership can accomplish.
We especially thank those hunters and CHL holders who have contacted the Division expressing their support for concealed carry for hunters. It is this support and communications that makes grassroots efforts successful.
The NRA played a key role supporting this effort through their NRA-ILA alert. We thank John Popp and Cam Edwards of the NRA News network for having Buckeye Firearms Association Region Leader Larry Moore on the NRA News and supporting our efforts.
