Buckeye Firearms Assoc.-endorsed Greene County Sheriff Gene Fischer under attack

Greene County Sheriff Gene Fischer is under some strong attacks by his opponent, Mr. Charles Barrett. This race is turning into one of the more nasty campaigns Greene County has experienced in recent years. Barrett has been aggressive in pressing various charges against Sheriff Fischer including some rather disgusting personal attacks.

One article in the Dayton Daily News reports, "Fisher said he prefers not to publicly criticize his opponent." Barrett left the Sheriff's office under less than ideal circumstances. Barrett says he retired but other records show a resignation during an improper conduct hearing. Additionally Barrett is also one of the subjects of a lawsuit filed by two other deputies, a man and his wife, alleging sex discrimination, retaliation and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Sheriff Fischer is not named in the lawsuit.

Regardless of the circus side-show that this race is becoming, Sheriff Fischer earned the endorsement of Buckeye Firearms Association. As a concealed carry advocate and volunteer for Buckeye Firearms Association I've had a very good working relationship with Sheriff Fischer. The relationship developed soon after Fischer became Sheriff.

His department handled the initial surge for concealed carry in 2004 very well. While there have been some personnel and procedure changes within the concealed carry processing, Sheriff Fischer's office continues to be concealed carry friendly and efficient in processing concealed handgun licenses. Key to that is the open communications Sheriff Fischer has fostered. Sheriff Fischer is also regularly attends functions across the county, including the Greene County Fish and Game Association, where he can interact with gun owners and sportsmen. Sheriff Fischer is also an NRA member.

I urge Greene County residents to cast a vote for Sheriff Gene Fischer.
