Changing attitudes in Chicago: 150 First-Timers give shooting a try
In an effort to help educate the Chicago-area public about gun ownership, shooting and firearm safety, three ranges around the Windy City teamed up with the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) to hold a total of nine First Shots seminars -- all of them filled to capacity. About 150 people took their First Shots, including husbands and wives, mothers and daughters, members of the media, veterans who had not shot since being in the military and many others.
The seminars were held at Midwest Sporting Goods in Lyons, G.A.T. Guns in Dundee and Bass Pro Shops in Gurnee. Said one attendee, "This seminar really changed my opinion and educated me greatly on gun safety and what it is to shoot a gun -- and how much fun it is. I highly recommend it to everyone."
The seminars were part of a broader effort in Chicago to raise awareness of the shooting sports and to promote firearms safety and responsibility. Similar efforts are being planned for other major cities this year.
