On Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2025, Gov. Mike DeWine signed three important bills that Buckeye Firearms Association has supported and testified for over the 2-year course of Ohio's 135th General Assembly:
Senate Bill 32, sponsored by Sen. Tim Schaffer (R-Lancaster), and which was amended into House Bill 452, provides civil immunity to a person who acts in self-defense and protects members and/or guests of a nonprofit, including churches.
Senate Bill 58, sponsored by Sens. Terry Johnson (R-McDermott) and Theresa Gavarone (R-Huron), prohibits requiring firearm liability insurance or being required to pay a fee for the possession of a firearm, part of a firearm, its components, its ammunition, or a knife.
Senate Bill 148, sponsored by Sen. Terry Johnson, and which was amended into SB 58, prohibits financial institutions from tracking firearms purchases and prohibits government entities from maintaining a registry of firearms or firearm owners.
BFA strongly backed each bill and thanks the Governor for signing these vital pieces of legislation. The new laws go into effect 90 days after signing.
