Joy Padgett endorsed for U.S. Congress - vote September 14
Buckeye Firearms is pleased to announce the endorsement of Joy Padgett for the 18th U.S. Congressional district. A special election is scheduled for September 14 to determine who will be the republican candidate on the ballot this November. The special election is needed due to Republican Bob Ney withdrawing after winning the Spring GOP primary.
Many Ohio gun owners know Representative Jim Aslanides as a leading advocate for gun rights; however, many Ohio gun owners are surprised to find out that Rep. Aslanides is working to finish what Padgett started a decade ago. Aslanides has described Padgett as “the mother of gun rights legislation in Ohio.”
In the 1995-96 session, concealed carry reform was introduced in the Ohio Senate by Joe Vukovich. Then State Representative Joy Padgett worked with Sen. Vukovich by leading the effort to pass that good legislation in the Ohio House.
In 1997 Padgett introduced concealed carry reform in the House. She introduced similar legislation again in 1999. While these early attempts failed, Padgett continued to build a valuable base of bi-partisan support in the legislature that would eventually coalesce to change Ohio’s law with the passage of H.B. 12 in 2004.
This session Senator Joy Padgett has continued her quest to see your gun rights restored with her tireless work on H.B.347, including the introduction of companion legislation, S.B. 252 in the Senate. Though gun owners would have liked this legislation to pass many months ago, it is vital to understand that Sen. Padgett is in no way part of the problems we are facing in the Senate.

Showing true leadership, Padgett has worked to extract the best from this unfortunate delay. She continues to work with all interested parties to address the issues of greatest concern to the Ohio gun owner. She has used this extra time to address issued not addressed in the House version and to build the support that will be needed to see this bill become law. Similar to Speaker Husted, Rep. Aslanides and Chairman Latta in the House, Sen. Padgett sees the gun owner as an equal partner in the legislative process and constantly seeks input from gun advocacy groups.
Not content to be a leader on gun rights issues, she chairs the Sportsmen’s Caucus in the Ohio Senate. This group is an important part of addressing the concerns of hunters and sportsmen.
Joy Padgett has spent years working to improve Ohio’s firearm laws from the perspective of a gun owner and active shooter. She understands us because she is one of us. While in years past she may have taken her city cousins “snipe hunting,” today she uses her charm and strong convictions to show her city bound colleagues why guns are just as important to today’s urban society as they where to her growing up rural Ohio.
Her years in the Ohio legislature have given her the experience to go to Washington and continue her work as part of the U.S. Congress. Her steady and unwavering commitment will make her a strong ally to our cause on a national level.
It is critical that the Ohio gun owner be proactive in this race, as special elections are almost always decided in favor of the candidate that turns out the voters. Given the large geographical area involved in this contest, gun owners have an opportunity to make a large impact on the race simply by showing up to vote. Even if you are not part of this district, please help Joy Padgett by encouraging everyone you know in her district to vote for and support Joy Padgett for Congress in the September 14 special election.
The 18th Congressional district is comprised of Athens, Belmont, Carroll, Coshocton, Guernsey, Harrison, Hocking, Holmes, Jackson, Knox, Licking, Morgan, Muskingum, Ross, Tuscarawas, and Vinton counties.
