LTE: Still another school shooting
October 12, 2007
Cleveland Plain Dealer
Still another school shooting - this time not off in some other state, but right here in Ohio, in our own back yard. Now we know that it can happen here. And we are not prepared to stave off still another shooting.

Perhaps the public, and parents in particular, who formerly pooh-pooed the idea, will now see the wisdom of allowing some school officials - be they teachers, professors, principals, coaches or superintendents - to be armed. Someone on the site should be able to respond immediately to the first gunshot, not forced to call 9-1-1 or the police in hopes that help will arrive before "too many" more children are shot.
U.S. Rep. Ron Paul has introduced H.R. 2424, the Citizens Protection Act of 2007, which would allow a school official to take NRA training in the use of a handgun, be schooled in knowing when and how to use it defensively, be checked out through state records, fingerprinted and photographed and issued a state license to carry a concealed handgun.
If you support that idea, let your representatives and senators know that you want their cooperation in getting this legislation passed.
Or should we all just wring our hands and hope that the next school shooting does not happen in our children's school?
