MORE: Ohioans continue to use firearms for self-defense in homes and places of business

Incidences of law-abiding citizens using firearms to protect themselves form violent predators continue to occur. The following incidences from around the state occurred in recent weeks.

In Akron, an attempted robber was shot multiple times by the owner of a pharmacy.

From the Akron Beacon-Journal:

Three black males wearing dark clothing and masks attempted to rob the pharmacy at 786 W. Market St., store employees told police.

Two of the males jumped over the pharmacy counter, near the register, and yelled “Don’t move!” to employees, police said.

The robbers started to pull plastic bags out of their pockets.

The store owner said he feared for his life and pulled out a 9mm handgun and fired several shots at the robbers, police said.

The males jumped back over the counter and ran to a nearby red Chevrolet Blazer parked on South Highland Avenue and drove off, police said.

Several minutes later, a male was dropped off at Barberton Hospital with gunshot wounds, police said.

In Columbus, a woman shot her boyfriend in self-defense during a fight at a hotel.

From WCMH (NBC Columbus):

According to Columbus police, Hernandez was involved in a fight with his live-in girlfriend, when he pulled a handgun and struck his girlfriend in the head.

Police say during the fight, the girlfriend was able to get the gun from Hernandez and shot him in the torso.

When officers arrived on scene, they found Porfilio Salvador Hernandez, lying in the hallway suffering from a gunshot wound.

According to police, all witnesses’ statements and evidence indicate the girlfriend acted in self-defense, and no charges are expected to be filed against the woman.

In Cincinnati, an armed 18 year-old was shot and killed while trying to allegedly rob an auto part store.

From WKRC (Cincinnati CBS):

18-year-old James Hutsell came in with another young man to rob the store. Sources say Hutsell's pellet gun looked like a real weapon. Gunfire started inside. Hutsell was found dead in the parking lot, shot while running out.

The auto parts store has been robbed before. There were customers with guns and conceal carry licenses inside the business on Wednesday night.

...

A person inside the store thwarted the attempt by shooting and killing one of the suspects.
