Poll Suggests Taft Has 18-Point Lead Over Hagan
A new poll suggests Governor Bob Taft has a large lead over Democratic challenger Tim Hagan.
That’s according to a new Ohio Poll, released Wednesday by the University of Cincinnati’s Institute for Policy Research. The poll finds Taft leads Hagan, a former Cuyahoga County Commissioner, 53 percent to 35 percent.
In a race for an open Supreme Court race, current Lieutenant Governor Maureen O’Connor has a 24-point lead over Judge Tim Black. In the other race between Justice Evelyn Stratton and Janet Burnside, most voters (51 percent) say they have not made up their minds as to how they will vote.
In other statewide races, Republican candidates hold leads in the campaigns for attorney general, auditor and secretary of state. However, Democrat Mary Boyle and Republican incumbent Joe Deters are statistically tied in the race for state treasurer.
The Ohio Poll’s results are a stark contrast to a poll released earlier this month by The Columbus Dispatch. That poll found Taft with a narrow eight-point lead over Hagan.
