BFA PAC Endorses Judge Craig Baldwin and Justice Mary DeGenaro for Ohio Supreme Court

Buckeye Firearms Association PAC (BFA PAC) is pleased to announce our first two endorsements of the 2018 general election season. With so much attention given to U.S. Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy’s retirement and speculation on who President Donald Trump will nominate to replace him, it is fitting that our first two endorsements are for the Ohio Supreme Court.

BFA PAC endorses Judge Craig Baldwin and Justice Mary DeGenaro for the Ohio Supreme Court in the November 6, 2018 general election.

Craig Baldwin has been endorsed by BFA several times in the past, including in 2016 for the Fifth district Court of Appeals where he won.

Mary DeGenaro spent nearly 17 years on the Seventh District Court of Appeals. She was appointed to the Ohio Supreme Court in January of 2018 to fill a vacancy.

While U.S. Supreme Court Justices are appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate to lifetime positions, Ohio Supreme Court Justices are elected by the people to six-year terms. Supreme Court candidates have more restrictions on fundraising and are not generally in the news, so lack of name recognition is often a problem. There is no “R” or “D” beside their name on the ballot, meaning voters must do their homework before entering the voting booth.

“In making these our first two endorsements, we want people to start talking about them,” said Jim Irvine, Chairman of BFA PAC. “None of our successes in the legislature matter if we don’t have judges willing to uphold the law. Baldwin and DeGenaro are both excellent judges who will rule on the law, not make law based on their personal whims.”

Whether the court is upholding a law on preemption, or overturning a lower court ruling that Ohio law banning concealed carry was unconstitutional, the Ohio Supreme Court has made rulings that delighted and frustrated gun owners. Either way their ruling greatly shape the rule of law and the legislative process for many years. These are critical elections for everyone, but especially gun owners.

We encourage everyone to mention these endorsements to their friends and neighbors. Most people do not know who to vote for in judicial races and having the guidance of a friend who knows something about the candidates is valuable.
