ACTION ALERT: Ohio School Safety Programs at Risk as Session Winds Down
With just days left in the legislative session, one major priority for Second Amendment advocates remains unfinished.
Senate Bill 317 clarifies that school districts have the right to set the rules that permit teachers and staff to be armed. The 12th District Court of Appeals issued an erroneous ruling that would mandate teachers be trained the same as police officers. While this terrible decision has been appealed to the Ohio Supreme Court, the legislature has the ability to put this debate to rest by passing SB 317.
Unfortunately, time is running out. SB 317 has passed the Senate, but still remains in the House Primary and Secondary Education Committee. Unless this bill passes, school safety programs in more than 70 counties are at risk. BFA strongly encourages emails and calls to your state representative to urge passage of Senate Bill 317 immediately.
