2022 Spring Youth Shoot a Rousing Success
The 2022 Spring Youth Shoot (May 14 and 15) at Dillon Sportsman Center in Nashport, Ohio, proved to be a success, with 77 youth participants and 52 adult volunteers in attendance.
Sponsored by Buckeye Firearms Foundation, this special 2-day event offers youth the chance to camp, shoot, and compete in the great outdoors. Other sponsors include the Civilian Marksmanship Program, NRA, and Central Ohio Youth Outdoor Sports.
For a mere $5 entry fee, youth have the opportunity to spend an entire weekend learning new skills and enjoying friendly competition with their peers. All firearms, ammunition, and targets are provided.
Dillon Sportsman Center hosts two youth shoots each year, in the Spring and Fall. To get alerts on these and other events, be sure to subscribe to the Buckeye Firearms Association free weekly newsletter.
Youth participants have the opportunity to learn age-appropriate marksmanship under the supervision of experienced adult volunteers.
Activities include archery, .22 rifle, and trap shooting for beginners, plus handgun and skeet activities for more experienced attendees.
Participants with no previous shooting experience spend Saturday morning in a safe gun handling class.
After check-in, a flag ceremony, and sitewide safety briefing, shooting activitees start on Saturday morning and run until nightfall.
Many attendees set up camp on Friday and spend the entire weekend at the range free of charge.
On Sunday afternoon, competitors receive well-deserved awards to recognize their participation and achievements.
