Salvation Army reconsidering dangerous & discriminatory ''no-guns'' policy

The Salvation Army has begun informing concerned customers and donors that it is reevaluating a policy of banning CHL-holders from its retail stores.

In a new form letter which is being sent out via email, the Army is now saying it is discussing its policy with the "risk manager".

Thank you for keeping an open mind too. I very much appreciate your willingness to discuss this with your risk manager.

As a fellow Christian, I want VERY MUCH to support your organization. I have already written to Target about them banning you from their premises. However, please understand that even for fellow Christians, the idea of being disarmed by an organization you have so much respect and admiration for is very troubling.

I have a wife and six children. The concealed carry permit I had for 10 years while I lived in Indiana allowed me to thwart one certain attack by six men, and a possible additional attack of my wife and me back in a wooded area (state park). I also recently came close to using my gun when my son and I were charged by an aggressive dog while taking a walk.

Unfortunately, most of the stores we might donate items to are not in good neighborhoods. Therefore it is especially important that we be allowed to protect ourselves when going to/from our vehicles.

I should also tell you that I'm a former reserve police officer from when I lived in Indiana. I have seen many crime victims go through some pretty terrible things that they would not have had to face if they had been armed and able to defend themselves. It is for these any many other reasons why I cannot let this issue go.

I am very anxious to start contributing to your wonderful organization again just as soon as you give me the green light by removing those signs. Thanks again for your graciousness and courtesy in all your correspondences with me. No matter how this turns out, you have impressed me with your kind spirit and good heart. Thanks.
