Hundreds of Ohio fugitives arrested in federal sting

Headlines across the state Friday touted local law enforcement participation in a national roundup of fugitives that the U.S. Marshals Service dubbed "Operation FALCON."

Federal and local law enforcement officers from across the country announced the arrests Thursday, saying 10,340 fugitives now are in custody.

The arrests, which were made the week of April 4, were part of a national sweep that the U.S. Marshals Service dubbed "Operation FALCON."

"They were the baddest of the bad," said Chris Riley, supervising deputy of the Marshals Service in Cincinnati.

Nationwide, authorities seized 243 guns, nabbed 162 suspected killers and arrested 553 accused sexual predators. The roundup involved more than 900 federal, state and local agencies...

How can gun ban extremists continue to operate under the delusion that they have a "choice" about being in the presence of people with firearms? How any sane person can continue to argue that Ohioans should not make plans to protect themselves after reading these stories about the predators among us?

1. A fugitive from San Diego, Steven Anthony Teel, was found in Cincinnati after investigators in California and Ohio compared notes. He's accused of pouring hot grease on his girlfriend.
2. Zari Caudill, who was wanted on a rape charge, is accused of using his wife and two small children as shields when police confronted him at his home in Cincinnati. He relented and no one was hurt.
3. John F. Gibbs, of Tennessee, was arrested April 7 at a Columbus motel. Gibbs was wanted for kidnapping with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, bribery of a witness and evading apprehension while risking death.
4. Armon Glover was arrested April 6. He was wanted for parole violations stemming from charges of felony assault, child endangerment, burglary and resisting arrest.
5. Wesley Allen Long was arrested April 4 in Columbus. He was sought after being indicted for allegedly raping a 6-year-old boy.
6. Tyrone Anthony Wilson was arrested in Columbus April 8. He was wanted in several states on two counts of murder and a firearms crime.
7. Dayton's biggest arrest was the April 7 apprehension of fugitive Michael Ray Cohen, wanted for domestic violence, rape, aggravated burglary and fleeing police, said Debra Armanini, first assistant prosecuting attorney for Montgomery County.
   Cohen was considered "armed and dangerous," and wouldn't have been apprehended without the assistance of the U.S. Marshals and cooperation between agencies, Armanini said.
8. Another arrest, on April 9 in Dayton, involved a suspect in three murders. Deputies found a loaded semiautomatic handgun with an obliterated serial number, body armor and a fictitious Nevada identification card when they searched him, said Bill Taylor, supervisory deputy U.S. Marshal, who headed up the Dayton operation.

It should offer Ohioans a true sense of proportion about how many fugitive predators walk among us when law enforcement officials admit that these 10,340 are just the "worst of the worst".

Chillicothe: Warrant issued for 22-year-old in robbery spree
When the robber walked into the Rentway in Central Center he confronted the manager, who had his 12-year-old daughter with him, the sheriffs say. In Pickaway County, he allegedly robbed at gunpoint a cashier who is eight months pregnant.
At the Kingston Citgo station, the robber fired a shot, narrowly missing a customer.

Cincinnati: Cincinnati Police Search for Gunman
Cincinnati police are searching for a gunman who opened fire on Cincinnati officers. The shootout followed a robbery at a Gold Star Chili restaurant. Police say at least three robbers opened fire when they arrived. Police shot one suspect and arrested another. They're still searching for a third gunman. The officers were not injured.

Dayton: Man Accused of Raping His Ex-Girlfriend
A Dayton man is accused of raping his ex-girlfriend, while her children were inside the home. The woman states Edward Evans held her captive inside the Kammer Avenue home for six hours. She was treated at Miami Valley Hospital and is expected to be okay. Edward Evans surrendered to police, and is behind bars.

Dayton: Shooting Death Of 19-Year-Old: Case Of Mistaken Identity?
There is new information Friday on the slaying of 19-year-old Darnell Poole. Police said Poole was shot in the head and killed while riding in a car on Gettysburg early Wednesday morning. Homicide detectives have been working the case since Wednesday, when Poole's friend drove him to Good Samaritan Hospital. Investigators said Poole may have died because of a case of mistaken identity. Police said investigators believe Poole was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time when he was shot in the parking lot of JP's Sports Bar. Officers said numerous bullet holes blanketed the left side of the car in was in.

Fairborn: ("No-guns") Bar Robbed Of $200
Police in Fairborn are searching for the man accused of robbing a Fairborn bar. The robbery happened at the Main Place Lounge on West Main Street on Wednesday night. A bar regular, Chuck Smith, said the robber walked in wearing a mask and holding a gun. He said the robber told everyone to get on the floor. Smith said the robber demanded money, fired a couple of shots into the air and then ran out the door. Smith said the police were called and then came to gather evidence and investigate. There were about a dozen customers in the bar when it was robbed.

Lancaster: Local marine goes beyond call of duty
A recruiting trip to Chillicothe put Marine Sgt. Brandon Hampson in the right place at the right time. He tackled a purse snatcher outside a Kroger grocery and held him until police arrived. No sweat. He just used part of his Marine training, tackled the guy and held him until police got there.

Lancaster: Deputies capture alleged burglars
A resident's complaint about people walking around houses in the neighborhood lead deputies to arrest three burglary suspects. At about 8:30 a.m. Sheriff's Saturday, Deputies Marty Norris and Betsey Willey were sent to the area of Ireland and Lake roads and found a red car with a loud exhaust. A neighbor in the area had called in to the sheriff's office saying the people in the car were walking around residences in the neighborhood. A search of the vehicle discovered watches, money - including Canadian money, two rifles and a muzzleloader.

Springfield: Man Gunned Down On City Street
Springfield police are looking for the gunman after someone chased down another man and shot him. The shooting happened near the intersection of Race and High streets around midnight. Authorities said Titus Arnold, 23, was shot in the head and was found lying on the ground near a pickup truck. Police said Arnold worked for Vision For Youth, an organization that helps troubled teens. Investigators said Arnold was leaving work and headed toward his car when he was gunned down. Witnesses said that Arnold was seen running from his assailant toward Race and High streets, when he was shot. Medics rushed Arnold to a Springfield hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Toledo: Ex-boyfriend accused of causing miscarriage
A pregnant Springfield Township woman told authorities she received a text message on her cell phone last week from her former boyfriend. "Have a miscarriage," it read. Less than a week later, Lucas County sheriff's detectives said, the former boyfriend made it happen. Gregorio M. Garcia, 23, of Green Springs, Ohio, is accused of forcing his way into the 25-year-old woman's Bancroft Street apartment on Monday, punching her several times in the stomach, and sexually assaulting her. As a result of the attack, detectives said, the woman suffered a miscarriage of her 10-week-old fetus.
