Which One Would You Prefer?
By Chris Chumita
The gun-grabbers have a strange view of the world. To them, the world would be a better place if all of the law-abiding citizens were disarmed. It is almost as if they believe that all of the murderers, rapists, and violent felons would suddenly change their ways if you did not own a gun. It also seems that they would rather see a private citizens raped, murdered, or seriously injured rather then use a firearm for self-defense.
The world is not a perfect place and the police cannot be everywhere. It is up to us to be responsible for our own protection. If the unthinkable happens, we must be prepared to do what has to be done in order to survive. That may involve carrying a gun for self-defense. By carrying a gun, we know that there is a possibility that we may have to use deadly force to protect ourselves or our loved ones. To gun-grabbers, that IS the problem.

It appears that the gun-grabbers are upset when a rapist’s career is suddenly put to a grinding halt, because he tried to rape the “wrong” woman. They are not upset that this thug tried to violate an innocent woman, and possibly kill her. They are upset that the true victim (for all of the supporters of the Brady Campaign, that’s the woman who was almost raped) used a firearm to defend herself. In their warped minds, it is a greater wrong for a woman to use a firearm against her attacker than the attacker to kill and/or rape her. Don’t worry; you are normal if their logic doesn’t make sense to you.
Whenever the topic of rape or other crimes comes up, they only want to talk about prevention. Granted, small changes in your life style will make it less likely that you will be a victim. Things such as walking to your car in groups, being more alert to your surroundings, crime prevention classes, and having the proper locks on your doors will help to deter some crime. The key word in is SOME crime. There is nothing we can do short of living our entire lives in fortified “safe” rooms that will totally prevent ALL crime. A firearm is meant to be a last resort. It is meant to be used to save your life when less lethal options and preventive methods have failed.
It should be noted that the gun-grabbers don’t seem to mind it if women uses other non-lethal methods to defend herself. For example, they encourage women to take self-defense courses. While taking a self-defense course is a good idea, it should not be seen as the final solution. Unless they continually train in the art of hand-to-hand self-defense, they will not usually be able to successfully complete the moves. Can we honestly expect a small woman to be able to physically defend herself against a two hundred pound attacker by using the moves she learned in an eight hour “rape prevention” class six months ago? Do we really want to discuss how useless techniques like squirting lemon juice in the eyes of the attacker, or placing keys between your fingers to “rake” them across an attacker’s face really are? While they don’t mind a woman putting up some defense, they stop short when it comes to firearms. Why would they want to prevent women from having the ultimate equalizer, a firearm?
The gun-grabbers also try to paint anyone that would carry a firearm for self-defense as having a bloodlust. They try to make it look like we are walking around looking for an opportunity to whip out our guns and have modern day “Shootout At The OK Corral.” That is the farthest thing from the truth.
We carry firearms to prevent crime. The last thing we want to do is to take another human’s life, but we will if it was the only way to save our own. While this article mainly focused on the gun-grabber’s opposition to letting women defend themselves, it should be noted that they oppose using firearms for self-defense as a whole.
Let’s go back to the above example. I know which one I prefer when it comes to an innocent woman preventing an attack by shooting her attacker or a woman being mutilated and raped. Which one would you prefer?
