There are more stories pertaining to our gun rights in Ohio then we can possibly draw attention to with individual daily commentary. But they are worthy of mention.

What follows is our review of headlines from around the state though a pro-gun rights lens.
From a victims fighting back to an extra weekend of hunting, these articles should be a part of your required reading!

11/20/06: Cincinnati, Ohio: Victims Fighting Attackers

It's a split-second decision all crime victims face when confronted by a robber, rapist or burglar: Obey the criminal or fight back. A growing number of Cincinnatians have chosen to fight.

Cincinnati police say at least nine homicides this year could qualify as justified because the killers say they were fending off criminals who intended to harm them. Last year, police reported one justified homicide.

Law-abiding citizens are tired of being victims, and they are tired of a court system that coddles criminals. As a result, more and more law-abiding citizens are using their constitutional right to self-defense and are fighting back.

Those who defend themselves say the decision is made so fast they rarely have time to consider the risks or the consequences. Even if they survive the encounter, they often face significant legal, financial and emotional costs.

This is why it is important to pass a "Stand Your Ground/Castle Doctrine" law in Ohio. It will prevent the senseless prosecution of people who defend themselves and protect them civilly as well.

11/19/06: Columbus, Ohio: Deer-Gun Season Extended For Ohio Hunters

Ohio's hunters will have an extra weekend of deer-gun season this year. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources said the season will open Nov. 27 and go through Dec. 3. Hunters will also be able to pursue deer on the weekend of Dec. 16 and 17.

An extra weekend of hunting is excellent news. It will give people an extra opportunity to hunt and to introduce the sport to new people.

11/16/06: Oakwood, Ohio: Oakwood Dorothy Lane Market Robbed

The search is on for an armed robber in Oakwood. Investigators say a man robbed The Dorothy Lane Market on Far Hills Avenue around 9:30 Thursday night. They say he showed a gun and took off with an unkown amount of cash.

Based upon the reports of pro-gun activists, this market was robbed before and is posted. When will people learn that posting a business does not prevent crime! It only creates criminal protection zones where a criminal can commit crimes in a "safe" environment.

11/15/06: Cincinnati, Ohio: Police Warn Of Robber Near UC

From the article:

Police are warning residents and University of Cincinnati students about a man robbing or attempting to rob people over the past few days along Clifton Avenue between Martin Luther King and Dixmyth Avenue.

What police didn't say is how many of
the victims were college students whose constitutional rights to self-
defense are being infringed upon by state law.

Twice beaten in recent runs for Congress, Capri Cafaro is angling for a soon-to-be-vacated state Senate seat.

Cafaro, a Mahoning Valley shopping-center heiress, is vying for the state Democratic caucus to select her to fill the 32nd District seat held by State Sen. Marc Dann. He was elected Ohio attorney general on Tuesday in a surprise victory over Republican Betty Montgomery.

Cafaro received an "A" rating by the NRA, and states that she is a strong supporter of our Second Amendment rights. However, many gun owners point out that many of the properties owned by her family are criminal protection zones, because they ban law-abiding citizens from carrying concealed handguns. The NRA believes that she is a strong pro-gun candidate, and hosted a NRA "Mix and Mingle" to help promote her during the last primary.
