Pro-Gun Punditry: Wednesday's Buckeye State Roundabout

By Chris Chumita

There are more stories pertaining to our gun rights in Ohio then we can possibly draw attention to with individual daily commentary. But they are all worthy of mention.

What follows is our review of headlines from around the state though a pro-gun rights lens.

From a staged school shooting to a police officer being investigated, these articles should be a part of your required reading!

5/13/07: Murfreesboro, Tennessee: Teachers Stage Fake Gun Attack On Kids

From the article:

Staff members of an elementary school staged a fictitious gun attack on students during a class trip, telling them it was not a drill as the children cried and hid under tables.

The mock attack Thursday night was intended as a learning experience and lasted five minutes during the weeklong trip to a state park, said Scales Elementary School Assistant Principal Don Bartch, who led the trip.

This was a GREAT idea! Schools routinely hold fire drills, and should hold drills for active shooter situations. School shootings are real, and we must prepare our children the best that we can.

5/12/07: Geneva, Ohio: Wild, Wild Geneva

From the article:

Tumbleweeds and hitching posts may be scarce in Geneva, but that won't stop Elizabeth Phillips from building her own Wild West in Northeast Ohio.

Phillips and her Northern Ohio Outlaws Cowboy Mounted Shooting Club will open fire Saturday at 2 p.m. at a demonstration at Spinning Wheel Farm.

This event sounds like it would be a blast. Check it out if you can!

5/11/07: Chicago, Illinois: 1 Teen Killed In Chicago Bus Shooting

From the article:

A gunman boarded a Chicago Transit Authority bus on the city's South Side on Thursday afternoon and opened fire, killing one teenager and wounding four others, authorities said.

The suspect fired multiple shots and then exited the bus and ran, said Assistant Deputy Superintendent Eugene Williams. He did not comment about a motive for the shooting and asked the public to call in with tips.

I thought that Chicago's strict gun control laws were supposed to prevent incidents like this. Oh yea, gun control laws only disarm the law-abiding!

5/10/07: National: Feds Probe Michael Moore's Cuba Trip

From the article:

Oscar-winning director and White House nemesis Michael Moore is under investigation by the U.S. Treasury Department.

Also from the article:

Moore won a 2002 Oscar for the anti-gun film "Bowling for Columbine."

Ha ha!

5/10/07: Richmond, Virginia: Va. Tech Review Panel Holds 1st Meeting

From the article:

The panel studying the shooting rampage at Virginia Tech held its first public meeting Thursday, with Gov. Timothy M. Kaine asking for details about the gunman, how the events unfolded, and how the state and other agencies responded.

It does not appear that the panel will even be discussing one major factor that played a role in this tragedy. The fact that the University's anti-gun policies prevented the students and faculty from being able to defend themselves with a firearm.

5/9/07: New York: Police Pistol Firing Probed

From the article:

The officer under investigation urinated and then fired his pistol once into the ground, Miguel said.

The officers were returning from services for Thomas Lindsey, 32, a Utica police officer who was shot in the line of duty April 12 during a traffic stop. Hundreds of police officers from across the state came for Lindsey's services.

After the services, the officers attended a reception where food and alcohol were provided, Miguel said.

According to the gun grabbers, only the police and the military are responsible enough to own guns.
