There are more stories pertaining to our gun rights in Ohio then we can possibly draw attention to with individual daily commentary. But they are all worthy of mention.

What follows is our review of headlines from around the state though a pro-gun rights lens.

5/28/07: Cincinnati, Ohio: Shots fired On University Of Cincinnati Campus

Shots were fired outside a University of Cincinnati dormitory in an apparent retaliation for an earlier fight, university police said.

Yet another reason to allow students and faculty to carry firearms for protection while on campus.

5/29/07: Olmsted Township, Ohio: Gunfire Unsett0les Growing Townships

From the article:

Gunfire in Olmsted Township neighborhoods didn't used to be a big deal. Under Ohio law, it's legal to shoot on private property in townships, regardless of how close neighbors are. But as Northeast Ohio's farmlands are cut into housing developments, new neighbors worry about becoming rural shooting galleries.

This always drives me crazy, people move to rural areas and then start telling the people who have lived there for years they're not allowed to shoot there anymore.

5/29/07: Columbus, Ohio: Scared Schools Locking Down

Since the start of the school year, there have been at least 29 lockdowns ordered in central Ohio schools, not counting drills. (Some of the lockdowns involved more than one school.) School officials say most were in response to emergencies outside the building -- a robbery, a shooting or a fight.

Thats right, at least 29 lockdowns in our Central Ohio "gun free" school zones!

5/27/07: Cleveland, Ohio: Man Shot, Killed In Attempted Robbery At Apartment Building

A masked gunman killed a man in an attempted robbery early Saturday morning, NewsChannel5 reported.

Cleveland needs to focus on stopping violent criminals from preying upon its citizens instead of spending their time trying to disarm the law-abiding.

5/26/07: National: Kevin Costner Calls For Stricter Gun Laws

From the article:

He says, "I'm a hunter, I hunt but I think there should be gun laws. I think there should be a lot of gun laws. I don't want to lose my shotgun but there's a real good reason why I use my shotgun. It came from my grandpa. His cheek was on it. My dad's cheek was on it and I go out and hunt with my dogs.

Sorry, but hunting is not the only "good reason" for firearms ownership. What about self-defense, target shooting, or the fact that it is your constitutional right?

5/26/07: Montgomery, Alabama: Alabama Boy Shoots Monster Pig

Stone's father, Mike Stone, said the animal weighed more than 1,000 lbs. and was more than nine feet long. The tusks measured five inches. It took heavy equipment to transport the animal out of the woods. The head went to a taxidermist. The rest is headed for the sausage factory. The Stones could net 500 to 700 lbs. of sausage meat.

Wow! Not only was the size of the boar amazing, but so was the age of the hunter. He was only 11 years old! You can see a picture of this amazing boar here!

5/24/07: Cleveland, Ohio: Man Shoots Pit Bull When It Tries To Attack

A man was attacked by a pitbull on the city's east side Thursday morning before a gas station owner shot the dog.

Another life saved by a citizen with a firearm!

5/23/07: Columbus, Ohio: 4 Dogs Shot In Armed Robbery

From the article:

Police continued to search for three people who broke into a home Wednesday morning and shot four dogs.

Karen Wilder and her daughter were inside their home on Dresden Street when the three armed men stormed in around 10 a.m.

Dogs are excellent companions and are great for home protection. However, a dog is no match for violent predator with a gun. In those cases, a gun in the home is often the best option.
