There are more stories pertaining to our gun rights in Ohio then we can possibly draw attention to with individual daily commentary. But they are all worthy of mention.

What follows is our review of headlines from around the state though a pro-gun rights lens.

6/11/07: Cincinnati, Ohio: On Tape: Carjackers Beat 72-Year-Old Woman

From the article:

Police said they are seeking help in their efforts to try to arrest two men who punched a 72-year-old woman in the face and took her vehicle in College Hill, Ohio.

It is because of animals like these thugs who assaulted an elderly woman, that we HAVE to carry firearms to protect ourselves and our families.

6/11/07: Statewide: Outdoors: Poaching Legislation Introduce In Ohio

From the article:

State Representatives Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) and Jimmy Stewart (R-Albany) this week announced the introduction of House Bill 238, legislation that would increase the penalties for poaching white-tailed deer and other wildlife in Ohio.

House Bill 238 will increase the fines for poaching any wildlife in Ohio and specifically increase the penalty for poaching an antlered white-tailed deer through the use of a gross scoring system based on various antler measurements.

Poachers make real hunters look bad, and hopefully this legislation will help stop more people from poaching.

6/10/07: Cleveland, Ohio: Cleveland Looks At Banning Crime Memorials

Councilman Kevin Conwell said street corner shrines, which sometimes include candles, balloons and stuffed animals, often glorify criminals and stigmatize neighborhoods. He plans to introduce legislation in the fall to ban or limit the memorials.

No new new laws are necessary, just sweep up the thug memorials like any other litter on the street. However, this is actually a sign that the City of Cleveland may slowly be realizing that their "hug a thug" mentality is NOT working.

6/7/07: Bethel Township, Ohio: Shooting Range A Concern For Citizens

From the article:

One resident, Edie Loney said that about 50 residents of that area signed a petition to stop the process, and she explained that the land would be better suited for other development.

"The petition stated that the signees are against the range, and the land would be better served if a nature reserve or something like that would be built there," Loney said. "A range would not be safe or quiet, and could drop property values of the homes out there."

I can never understand why so many people get so upset over the possiblity of a shooting range being built, because their fears of violence never come true. Also, accidents on commericial and public shooting ranges are rare, so "safety" is really not an issue.

6/6/07: Columbus, Ohio: Boy, 10, Shoots Self And Friend, Police Say

A 10-year-old boy who found a small-caliber pistol in an East Side backyard shot himself and his 12-year-old friend last night, police said.

This is exactly why gun safety education, such as the NRA's Eddie Eagle program, should be taught in all schools. This tragedy could have been avoided if the child knew and followed Eddie Eagle's advice.

6/5/07: Springfield, Ohio: Police - Springfield Man Threatened With Loaded Gun

From the article:

A Springfield man is in custody after police said he allegedly threatening a co-worker with a loaded gun.

Work places that ban its employees from carrying concealed handguns for protection on company property are only creating an illusion of safety. Gun bans only make it safer for the criminal and ensure that their emplyees are unable to protect themselves in the event of a work-place shooting or other similiar violent encounter.
