Pro-Gun Punditry: Wednesday's Buckeye State Roundabout

There are more stories pertaining to our gun rights in Ohio then we can possibly draw attention to with individual daily commentary. But they are all worthy of mention.

What follows is our review of headlines from around the state though a pro-gun rights lens.

From an execution behind an elementary school to a burglar suing his victim, these articles should be a part of your required reading!

8/6/07: Newark, New Jersey: Four College Friends Shot in New Jersey

From the article:

Three friends were forced to kneel against a wall behind an elementary school and were shot to death at close range, and a fourth was found about 30 feet away with gunshot and knife wounds to her head, police said.

Was this a "gun free zone?" it couldn't have been since the violent criminals had guns. Besides, violence with guns shouldn't happen in New Jersey because of their strict gun control laws.

8/5/07: Noble, Oklahoma: Cop's Shots at Snake May Have Killed Boy

From the article:

A stray bullet fired by a police officer trying to shoot a snake hit and killed a 5-year-old boy fishing at a nearby pond, officials said.

Austin Haley was fishing with his grandfather, Jack Tracy, Friday evening when Tracy said he heard a shot and saw a bullet hit the water just a few feet in front of the boat dock where he was standing.

Moments later, a second shot was fired that hit Austin in the head.

A Noble police officer who had responded to a report of a snake in a tree apparently fired the deadly shot while trying to kill the snake, according to City Manager Bob Wade.

This story is a tragedy on so many different levels. A young boy was killed, and it appears that it is due to a police officer disregarding the basic rules of gun handling. We should also point out that the gun-grabbers feel that the police and the military are they only ones who are responsible enough to handle guns.

8/5/07: Statewide: Fewer Bank Robberies This Year, But More Guns Being Used In Them

The number of bank robberies is down locally and statewide, but more robbers are using firearms in holdups.

I would like to know how many of these banks that were robbed had "No Guns" signs posted. Criminals do NOT listen to signs!

8/4/07: Cleveland, Ohio: A.M. Shooting In Cleveland

From the article:

A man was shot at Euclid Avenue and 30th Street about 8:10 a.m. today, Cleveland police said.

More violence erupts on the streets of Cleveland, who is too busy trying to infringe upon the rights of its honest citizens instead of trying to stop its skyrocketing homicide rate.

8/3/07: Newark, Ohio: Two Columbus Police Officers Were Armed, Appeared Drunk

From the article:

Two Columbus Police Officers who were arrested early Thursday morning in Licking County may have been drinking at an Etna Township bar earlier that night, according to sheriff's reports released eysterday.

According to the gun-grabbers, only the police and the military are responsible to carry firearms.

8/3/07: Cleveland, Ohio: Male Stabbed On Cleveland's East Side

From the article:

A male was stabbed on Cleveland's East Side Friday night before being rushed to Huron Hospital around 9:20, an Emergency Medical Services captain said.

Even more violence in the city that has declared war on law-abiding gun owners instead of violent criminals.

7/8/07: Cincinnati, Ohio: More Kids Use Guns In Crimes

From the article:

Thomas Lipps, Hamilton County Juvenile Court presiding judge, sat in his chambers last week rattling off case after case in which teenagers - some as young as 12 and 13 - are accused of committing crimes with guns.

"It used to be homicides were committed by people aged 18 to 35, then it dropped to 16 to 28. Now we talk about kids as young as 12 and 14," said Cincinnati Police Chief Thomas Streicher. "It's a concern to us."

This is just more proof that gun control laws do not work.

9/27/06: Milwauke: Accused Burglar Sues Homeowner Who Shot Him

From the article:

A Janesville man who admitted breaking into a home is suing the homeowner who shot him.

Kurt Prochaska, 39, was on probation last fall when he admitted he broke in to a home and was shot by the homeowner, but that's not stopping him from going after cash through the courts.

Also from the article:

Nearly a year later, Rainiero's attorney said it's far from over because Prochaska is suing him from beind bars, saying the doctor didn't need to shoot him.

"What the doctor wants is this whole ordeal to be ended and done with," Rainiero's attorney said.

The Milwaukee County suit claims Rainiero used excessive force to deal with the intruding plaintiff and alleges severe and permanent injuries, relentless pain, and loss of earning capacity. The suit doesn't specify a damage amount.

In order to prevent scumbags like Prochaska from suing their victims in civil court, we need to finally pass a "Castle Doctrine" bill in Ohio, .

6/10/06: Rochester, New York: Foiled Burglar Sues For Emotional Distress

From the article:

A man who was beaten by employees of a store he was trying to rob is now suing.

Also from the article:

Now Buckman is suing the auto parts store and the two employees who beat him, claiming they committed assault and battery and intentionally inflicted emotional distress.

This is exactly why we have to pass a "Castle Doctrine" in Ohio. Violent criminals like Buckman should NOT be able to further victimize his victims by suing them.
