By Chris Chumita

There are more stories pertaining to our gun rights in Ohio then we can possibly draw attention to with individual daily commentary. But they are all worthy of mention.

What follows is our review of headlines from around the state though a pro-gun rights lens.

From a home invasion on campus to an UPS truck hijacked in Cleveland, these articles should be a part of your required reading!

12/2/07: Cincinnati, Ohio: Police Search For UC Home Invaders

From the article:

After a University of Cincinnati student was shot during a home invasion Thursday, police said they are releasing surveillance tape to help find the remaining two attackers.

They said that three men walked into the University Park Apartments, took an elevator up to a fourth-floor apartment and robbed the students who lived there.

This is just one of the reasons why we should never restrict the Second Amendment rights of college students.

12/1/07: Huron, Ohio: 2 Hunters Stabbed By Man In Erie County Farm Field

From the article:

Two men were stabbed yesterday while deer hunting by a man who walked through the farm field where they had their blind, authorities said.

After reading about this incident, it proves the need for hunters to be allowed to carry concealed handguns while hunting.

11/30/07: North Ridgeville, Ohio: Employees Arrive At Work To Find Man With Gun

From the article:

When employees arrived at Puritas Metal Products, they noticed a broken office window but realized the access doors were locked. Puritas Metal Products is located at 7720 Race Road.

Police said Christopher Cole, 43, of Elyria, was inside with a gun and two loaded magazines. He was also wearing a bulletproof vest and carrying extra ammunition and pepper spray, police said.

Thankfully, this situation ended without anyone getting hurt. From the initial report, it appears that the business may have been posted. If it was, it did not prevent Cole from attempting to set up an ambush that could have killed several employees.

11/30/07: Cleveland, Ohio: Man Shot To Death During Alleged Carjacking

From the article:

A man was shot to death Friday on Cleveland's east side during an apparent carjacking.

Crime in Cleveland is out of control, and the City only response seems to be useless "feel good" tactics like gunbuy back programs. When are they going to actually target the violent criminals instead of guns and law-abiding gun owners?

11/30/07: Shakopee, Minnosota: Man Indicted For Shooting Woman Who Responded To Craigslist Ad

From the article:

A 19-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder after he killed a woman who responded to his online ad for a babysitter.

Yet another example of a criminal using a newspaper to plan a crime. This is exactly when CHL holders DO NOT want their names printed.

11/28/07: Cleveland, Ohio: Cleveland To Melt Down Hundreds Of Guns

From the article:

The city of Cleveland is getting rid of hundred of guns, melting them down in the name of safety.

In the last two years, the city has taken more than 3,000 guns off the streets as part of the buy-back program.

What a waste. I can think of better uses for those guns than melting them. I guess "taking 3,000 guns off the street" does not appear to have helped since Cleveland's homicisde rate has skyrocketed.

11/28/07: Hamilton County, Ohio: Store Owner Who Shot Armed Robber Not Charged

From the article:

Hamilton County prosecutor Joe Deters says he will not send either case to a grand jury. Instead, he's sending a strong message to armed thieves.

"As long as I'm prosecutor, if someone comes into a store with a gun – and I've said it before and I'll say it again – they have forfeited their right not to be shot," said Deters.

This is great news! We need more prsecutors like Deters.

11/27/07: Summit County, Ohio: Summit County Helps Fund Upcoming Gun-Buyback Program

From the article:

Summit County Council plans to contribute $5,000 toward an upcoming gun-buyback program.

What a waste of time and money that could have been used to fight crime. The facts are in, gun buy backs does not make a difference!

11/27/07: Cleveland, Ohio: UPS truck hijacked on Cleveland's East Side

From the article:

Four men hijacked a UPS delivery truck at gunpoint on Cleveland's east side today, taking off with the truck and damaging packages before police found the truck a few hours later.

It is my understanding that UPS employees cannot carry a firearm to protect themselves while at work. Hopefully, this incident will force UPS management to reconsider their dangerous policy before a driver is killed.
