Pro-Gun Punditry: Wednesday's Buckeye State Roundabout

By Chris Chumita

There are more stories pertaining to our gun rights in Ohio then we can possibly draw attention to with individual daily commentary. But they are all worthy of mention.

What follows is our review of headlines from around the state though a pro-gun rights lens.

From robberies at a shopping center to the hunt for a bank robber, these articles should be a part of your required reading!

What follows is several days of headlines accompanied by short, concise pro-gun analysis.

1/8/08: Akron, Ohio: Woman Robbed In Area Mall's Parking Lot

From the article:

Akron police are investigating two Saturday separate robberies. The first happened about 7 p.m. Saturday in the Chapel Hill mall parking lot.

Always be aware of your surroundings and be prepared to defend yourself. This is especially true while shopping because shopping centers are excellent targets for criminals.

1/8/08: Houston, Texas: Hunter Killed When Dog Steps On Gun

From the article:

He placed the weapon in the back of his truck and was about to open the tailgate to release his chocolate Labrador retriever named Arthur when the gun fired.

The dog's paw prints were later found on the gun.

Accidents can happen. Always make sure that you practice basic gun and hunter safety rules.

1/7/08: Akron, Ohio: Officials: Coed Beaten, Raped

From the article:

The University of Akron sent out an e-mail warning Monday after a female student was sexually assaulted in her off-campus residence early Monday morning, according to the Akron Beacon Journal, NewsChannel5's news partner.

A university police official said a 21-year-old woman was beaten and raped by a man who entered her Kling Street house at about 2:30 a.m.

Home invasions seem to be happening more and more. Are you prepared to defend yourself and your loved ones if it happens to you?

1/7/08: Cleveland, Ohio: Two People Shot Early Monday Morning

From the article:

Police are seeking shooters in connection with two separate shootings in Cleveland early Monday morning.

It looks like 2008 is going to be just as dangerous as 2007. Cleveland needs to focus on preventing violent crime instead of preventing legal gun ownership.

1/7/08: Delaware County, Ohio: Man Implied He Had Gun To Rob Video Store

From the article:

A man with a hand in his jacket pocket implied that he had a gun when he approached the counter of the Blockbuster video store at 8605 Columbus Pike in Lewis Center at 11:17 p.m.

This is exactly why we should always carry our firearm - we may need it at any time, even during a quick trip to the store to rent a movie.

1/6/08: Cleveland, Ohio: Four Candidates Want Kucinich's Congressional Seat

From the article:

Cleveland City Councilman Joe Cimperman, North Olmsted Mayor Thomas O'Grady, antiwar activist Rosemary Palmer and former U.N. worker Barbara Ferris filed to oppose Kucinich in the March 4 Democratic primary.

Also running is Republican Jim Trakas, a former state representative from Independence, and Jason Werner of Olmsted Township, who lost the 2006 GOP primary for Kucinich's seat.

Hopefully, we can finally get the antigun Kucinich out of office. We already know that Trakas and Ferris are great options. At this time, we do not know about the other candidates.

1/4/08: Lakewood, Ohio: Authorities Search For Bank Robber

From the article:

Lakewood police and the FBI are asking for help to identify a man who robbed a Fifth Third Bank branch on West 117th Street at 10:35 this morning.

The Fifth Third Bank forbids its customers from carrying their concealed handguns inside their banks. If the robber wanted to hurt the bank's customers, their policy would have prevented their customers from defending themselves.
