A special Kenton County sheriff's squad corralled a probation violator from Cincinnati Tuesday evening in Covington with an assist from a bystander who saw the officers chasing the man.
Rodney J. Hail, 31, of East Price Hill, was running from deputies when Patrick Burns of Cincinnati tackled him near the confluence of the Licking and Ohio rivers, said Col. Ron Washington, chief deputy for the sheriff's department.
That enabled officers of the department's fugitive apprehension team to catch up to Hail and arrest him.

Deputies on stakeout first spotted Hail at 15th and Madison driving a truck, but when they attempted to pull him over, he drove off, Washington said.
With two sheriff's cruisers and several Covington Police cars in pursuit, Hail sped drove toward the river on Madison.
Hail abandoned his truck on Riverside Drive near the Mike Fink Restaurant, Washington said.
Hail was charged with felonies and misdemeanors, police said.
OFCC PAC Commentary:
This incident did not involve a CCW license-holder, but it was in Kentucky (a CCW state) and shows yet again that the good guys are the good guys and can be trusted.
This is yet another example of how the law-abiding citizen, licensed to carry or not, is going to come to the aide of a police officer, rather than adding an additional threat.
In this case, the citizen who aided deputies was not armed, and, thankfully, neither was the criminal. But there are many, many examples of armed citizens who have saved the lives of police officers across the nation.
