NBC Dayton: Buckeye Firearms Association's Joe Eaton explains Castle Doctrine in wake of home invasion
by Chad D. Baus
In the wake of yet another home invasion in which the victim was able to defend himself with a firearm, Dayton's NBC affiliate gave Buckeye Firearms Association's Joe Eaton the opportunity to explain Ohio's law on self-defense, also known as Castle Doctrine.
In related coverage of the Dayton incident, WHIO, Dayton's CBS affiliate, reported that the 18-year-old home invader "had a troubled past."
Police said that as a juvenile the teen was suspected of several thefts. They added that, at this time, all of the evidence points toward the homeowner acting in self-defense.
Chad D. Baus is the Buckeye Firearms Association Vice Chairman.
[UPDATE: No charges filed in shooting death of teen intruder
Greg Flannagan, spokesman for the Montgomery County prosecutors, said the state’s Castle Doctrine, which says a person has a right to protect his or her home without facing prosecution in certain circumstances, protected the man who fired the shot.
