Gun ban extremists seek to prevent Ted Nugent from playing Toledo-area summer concert

Josh Horwitz, of the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence (CSGV), an anti-gun group formed in 1974 as the National Coalition to Ban Handguns, has apparently decided it's not just the Second Amendment that he opposes - it's the First Amendment as well. At least, that is, when the person wanting to exercise his First Amendment rights is rocker Ted Nugent.

As we reported earlier today, because gun ban extremists like Horowitz have experienced defeat after defeat after defeat in legislative arena, they're changing tactics. Having long sought a sympathetic ear from capitalist-hating readers of the Huffington Post about the evils of corporations and profits, these days Horowitz is seeking to buddy up to the corporate world he has previously derided.

An email from CSGV, dated April 10, is a perfect example. In it, Horowitz calls on recipients to sign a petition and demand the corporate sponsor of a summer music festival Nugent is scheduled to play at here in the Buckeye State to cancel the show.

I have some unsettling news to report. The Toledo Blade newspaper is sponsoring a food and music festival in Ohio this summer with a scheduled appearance by an extremist we all know too well: National Rifle Association board member Ted Nugent.

In addition to being an adamant opponent of sensible gun laws, Nugent has made himself politically toxic through a seemingly endless series of racist, misognyist and threatening pronouncements. How toxic? Recently, the town of Longview, Texas elected to pay Nugent not to attend their 4th of July celebration.

Now it's Maumee, Ohio's turn to reject Nugent. Click here to tell the Toledo Blade to cancel Nugent's appearance at their festival.

Horowitz goes on to provide a link to a petition asking the newspaper to "Cancel Ted Nugent's appearance immediately."

"If we can make a strong show of opposition, I am certain we can sway [The Blade] towards the right decision," Horowitz writes. Horowitz's leftist buddies at Media Matters for America are also trying to support effort.
