Op-Ed: Second Amendment Right to Bear and Carry Firearms Rests on 2012
by Giacomo
Whether we like the system or not, it seems that virtually every gun control law passed ends up being heard by the US Supreme Court. With a renewed effort amongst the Democrats to ban guns and conceal and carry, the makeup of the SCOTUS becomes a critical issue for gun rights.
The current Court is made up of five justices that have ruled in favor of the Second Amendment right to bear and carry firearms and four justices that believe the Second Amendment is being wrongly interpreted. These four justices, Breyer, Ginsburg, Sotomayor and Kagan, only need one more Second Amendment dissenter to be nominated to the Court and the face of gun control will be drastically changed for years to come.
Most political analysts believe that at least one more justice will retire during the next presidential term. If Obama is still in office, he will surely seat another flaming liberal like the two he has appointed during this term. That being the case, be prepared for the strictest gun control laws ever to be upheld by the Court.
That’s why it is so very important that we support a Republican candidate that has demonstrated their support of the Second Amendment right to bear arms. It’s also important that the Republicans keep control of the House and gain control of the Senate to keep any of Clinton’s or Obama’s gun control measures from ever being enacted in the first place.
