Pro-CCW, Anti-Taft Protestors to send Bush a message in Columbus

Ohio Public Radio's Bill Cohen reported today that concealed carry reform supporters plan to send a message to President Bush when he visits Ohio this Thursday.

The message?

**Bob Taft's opposition to some of President Bush's strongest issues, such as self-defense rights and lower taxes, threatens to damage the President's re-election chances in state where he won only by some 200,000 votes in the year 2000, due to disillusioned voters in the conservative base.**

The story, which can be found by clicking here, is running statewide on NPR stations.

ANTI-TAFT PROTEST AT PRESIDENT BUSH APPEARANCE THURSDAY (COLUMBUS)
------------------------------------------------------------------

WHEN: Thursday, OCTOBER 30th at 11:00 a.m. Hyatt Regency 350 N. High St.

WHAT: Local organizers in Columbus Ohio will protest to show the Republican National Committee and the Bush Campaign that Ohioans’ are no longer being represented by Governor Bob Taft or some members of the Ohio Senate Republican Caucus.

WHY: Governor Taft’s continued efforts to block the legislative process, override the will of the people and deny Ohioans the right to self-defense is in direct conflict with President Bush’s own record on self-defense in Texas and in foreign policy. Taft and certain Republicans who refuse to commit to a veto-override leave Ohioans
defenseless against violent attack. This protest is intended demonstrate
that Ohio Republican politics are hurting President Bush’s re-election chances in Ohio, because his base has become so disillusioned by Taft’s record on taxes and Second Amendment rights. If concealed carry legislative reform does not take place in Ohio prior to the 2004 Presidential election, concealed carry proponents believe Ohio Republicans will do serious damage to President Bush’s reelection chances.
