Pro-Gun Punditry: Wednesday's Buckeye State Roundabout
By Chris Chumita
There are more stories pertaining to our gun rights in Ohio than we can possibly draw attention to with individual daily commentary. But they are all worthy of mention.
What follows is our review of headlines from around the state though a pro-gun rights lens.
From another anti-gunner running for president to the Tattoo Gypsy commenting on CCW, these articles should be a part of your required reading!

2/6/07: National: "America's Mayor", Rudy Giuliani, Officially Joins Campaign for President
From the article:
Ex-New York City mayor, Rudy Giuliani has officially filed a statement with the Federal Elections Commission to campaign for President in 2008 as a Republican candidate, a long-expected announcement for "America's Mayor" after spending nearly three months on the campaign trail.
Thats great, we officially have another anti-gun candidate for president. Now all four of the main contenders (McCain, Giuliani, Clinton, and Obama) are anti-gun!
2/6/07: Columbus, Ohio: Man Slain In Break-In Had 2 Burglary Convictions
From the article:
Police said the homeowner at 925 Lilley Ave. awakened to the sound of breaking glass, grabbed a handgun and went downstairs to investigate. At the bottom of the stairs, he encountered an intruder and fired one shot when the man started coming toward him.
Also from the article:
Finney was released from the Ross Correctional Institution in November 2005 after serving 21 months for a burglary conviction, Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction records show. He also was imprisoned for two months in 2003 for burglary and receiving stolen property.
It looks like this two-time loser did not learn his lesson after spending time in prison on two different occasions for burglary. Thankfully, the homeowner had a gun and was able to defend himself. Also, did you catch the media bias in the headline?
2/4/07: Columbus, Ohio: Columbus Police Getting First New Gun Model Since 1990
From the article:
City police are replacing their handguns for the first time since 1990 and say it will help them fight an increase in firepower they're finding on the streets.
It is nice to see that the City of Columbus is trying to make sure that their police officers are carrying the appropriate firearms to confront violent criminals. However, they are also trying everything they can to disarm law-abiding citizens. It is a move that can leave their citizens defenseless against armed and violent criminals.
2/2/07: Youngstown, Ohio: City Police Investigate Robbery At Gas Station, Home Invasion
From the article:
Police are investigating the armed robbery of two couples at a South Side gas station and a home invasion by a group of armed men at an East Side residence.
It is cities like Youngstown who blame guns for their high violent crime rate and try everything they can to disarm the law-abiding. Maybe if they actually focused on going after real criminals, incidents like these would not be daily occurances.
2/2/07: National: Training Survival: Building Shooting Muscle
From the article:
Since you carry a gun for self-defense or to save the life of another, then you are concerned with combative firearms skills rather than shooting merely for the experience of shooting. To reach this goal, you engage in training, mostly in the form of practice on a range. How close you get to your goal will depend on the effectiveness of your training.
Since we carry a firearm on a daily basis, we must train regularly. We must remind all CHL holders that formal firearms training should not stop once you obtain your CHL.
2/1/07: Columbus, Ohio:
Store Clerk Fights Back Against Would-Be Robbers
From the article:
Police said 19-year-old Shandos Young and 18-year-old Justin Cockrell entered the market with bandanas over their faces and threatened the owner and another employee.
"I seen these guys storm in with their guns. I dropped the phone, backed away, drew my gun and fired two shots and just tried to get them out of the store," said Clive Weidle, the store clerk.
A firearm saved the clerk's life, not Columbus' stupid "Assault Rifle Ban." I would hate to imagine what would have happened if the clerk was not armed. It should also be noted that this is the SECOND time that the clerk used a firearm for protection.
N/A: Cleveland, Ohio: Tattoo Gypsy on Concealed Carry Law
You have probably heard of the Tattoo Gypsy if you live in the Cleveland area. He is a biker who does occasional commentary for 19 Action News. In this older video, he does a pro-gun commentary.
