By Chris Chumita
There are more stories pertaining to our gun rights in Ohio then we can possibly draw attention to with individual daily commentary. But they are worthy of mention.
What follows is our review of headlines from around the state though a pro-gun rights lens.
From a free shotgun promotion to the death of a robber, these articles should be a part of your required reading!

10/31/06: Chester County, Pennsylvania: Free Shotgun with Truck Purchase?
From the article:
Country Dodge in oxford offered a certificate for a free shotgun with every SUV or pick up purchased.
That is a great idea! It makes me want to buy a SUV!
10/28/06: Indianapolis, Indiana: Eastside Church Stages Gun Buyback
From the article:
A small Eastside church today is hoping to make a dent in Indianapolis’ crime problems by hosting a gun buyback that will pay people $50 per for each gun they turn in.
Gun buyback programs DO NOT decrease crime. It has been proven several times. You maybe getting an old gun from a grandmother's attic, but you are not getting guns from the gang members and drug dealers.
10/26/06: Columbus, Ohio: Same Man Is Robbing Restaurants
From the article:
Police said Wednesday that the same man is robbing a series of restaurants on the city's north side. Eight restaurants were robbed in a four-month period, police said.
This string of robberies is more proof that Columbus City Councilman Mike Mental's "Assault Rifle Ban" would not do anything to prevent crime.
Also from the article:
Most of the victimized restaurants have made changes, like at Papa Joe's, Scarborough reported. That restaurant has working surveillance cameras and locks its back doors, Jones said.
Hopefully the restaurants are also allowing their employees to carry concealed handguns to protect themselves.
10/26/06: Springfield, Ohio: Wittenberg College Students Robbed At Gunpoint
From the article:
Campus police at Wittenberg University are warning students to take extra safety precautions after two students are robbed at gunpoint outside a fraternity house on Wednesday night.
The victims were unable to protect themselves from the robbers, because our college campuses are criminal protection zones. Luckily, the robbers only wanted their money and not their life. This is yet another example, of the law-abiding being unarmed and the criminals using it for their advantage.
10/26/06: Cleveland, Ohio: Senate Candidates Trade Criticisms In Cleveland Stops
From the article:
He (DeWine) criticized Brown for refusing to support concealed carry for officers and voting against labor regulations guaranteeing officers the right to overtime pay.
DeWine has no right to criticize anyone over firearm or concealed carry issues. He does not support the citizens carrying concealed handguns, and is "F" rated by the NRA. From his comment and track record, it looks like he supports the police and his bodyguard's right to carry concealed handguns, but just not you or me.
10/25/06: Springfield, Ohio: Bakery Bandits Busted In Bed
From the article:
Chief Moody said Rice and Wallace were responsible for the robbery at Schuler's last Sunday. He said the pair pretended to hold guns as they demanded cash. "Whether they display a weapon or not, people need to comply. Let us do our jobs."
Something Troy Schuler is reiterating to his employees. He credits their compliance and his high-tech security with the arrests. "Security system is awesome. That's why I put the money into it, so that we could benefit from it."
Once again the police do not mention that citizens should have the means to protect themselves when it comes to violent crime. Hopefully, the bakery owner will spend a few bucks on a gun and some training in addition to what he spends on his security system. Obviously his security system was not "awesome" enough since it did not prevent him from being robbed.
10/25/06: Cincinnati, Ohio: Suspect In Winton Place Deli Robbery Dies
From the article:
Officers say Eden struck the owner on the head, and then the owner shot him.
Also from the article:
The owner suffered a severe head laceration and was treated and released.
The owner appropriately defended himself, but it is feared that he may be prosecuted. We should not face charges for defending ourselves from robbers who are physically assaulting us. When will we stop coddling criminals?
