Pro-Gun Punditry: Wednesday's Buckeye State Roundabout
By Chris Chumita
There are more stories pertaining to our gun rights in Ohio then we can possibly draw attention to with individual daily commentary. But they are all worthy of mention.
What follows is our review of headlines from around the state though a pro-gun rights lens.
From a shooting in front of a "no-guns" store, to the premier of "The Gang", these articles should be a part of your required reading!

7/6/07: Cleveland Heights, Ohio: 2 People Shot At Cleveland Heights UDF
From the article:
One person is listed in serious condition at Huron Road Hospital after being shot at the Cleveland Heights United Dairy Farmer early Friday morning.
Another incident of violence just outside of an extremely anti-gun UDF store. All UDF stores have "No Guns" signs posted as corporate policy.
7/4/07: Elyria, Ohio: Man Opens BB Gun Shooting Range For Children
From the article:
In an effort to bring back a tradition from his own childhood, an 84-year-old man has created a BB gun shooting range for children.
Ted Dowdell decided to turn the barn next to his home near Cleveland into a free shooting range for children.
We need more people like Ted Dowdell. He is helping introduce the shooting sports to the next generation.
7/4/07: Wichita, Kansas: Kansas Shoppers Step Over Dying Woman
From the article:
As stabbing victim LaShanda Calloway lay dying on the floor of a convenience store, five shoppers, including one who stopped to take a picture of her with a cell phone, stepped over the woman, police said.
This horrible incident helps prove that we need to be able to carry guns to protect ourselves, because we CANNOT truely count on ANYONE to help us.
6/30/07: Mayfield Heights, Ohio: Officer Training Becomes Too Real
From the article:
The shotgun was supposed to be loaded with blanks.
But instead, the gun wielded by a Shaker Heights police officer during a training exercise Wednesday was accidentally loaded with birdshot. And three police officers got a taste of it.
According to the gun-grabbers, only the police are responsible enough to carry firearms. NEVER store, load, or handle blanks, dummy rounds, and live rounds at the same time.
6/27/07: Reynoldsburg, Ohio: More Coyotes Calling Central Ohio Home
From the article:
Coyotes are becoming more and more prevalent in central Ohio and wildlife experts said it's because the animals are growing more accustomed to urban landscapes.
Also from the article:
According to the Ohio Department of Wildlife, residents who see a coyote are allowed to shoot it -- but only with a video camera, and not a gun.
Central Ohio municipalities like Worthington, Gahanna and Powell all prohibit residents from shooting at coyotes in their neighborhood - even if those residents feel threatened, Townsend reported.
It looks like they might need to allow people to start hunting coyotes in the affected areas.
6/25/07: Cleveland, Ohio: Gunman Chases, Kills Witness To Shooting
From the article:
A gunman who wounded a man during an argument near a West Side bar chased down a witness and shot him early Saturday, Cuyahoga County Coroner Elizabeth Balraj said.
Yet another case of violent crime in Cleveland. It makes you wish that the city would be more concerned with REAL criminals than attacking law-abiding gun owners in court.
6/24/07: Lorain, Ohio: Pizza Shop Owner Shot, Killed
From the article:
Police said they responded to a report of shots fired at Granny D's Pizza on East Erie Aveune just before midnight.
When officers arrived, they found the owner had been shot and killed.
This is just more proof that we cannot count on the police to protect us. We must be able to adequately defend ourselves until the police arrive.
6/23/07: Chicago, Illinois: Jesse Jackson Arrested at Demonstration
From the article:
The Rev. Jesse Jackson was arrested Saturday at a demonstration outside a south suburban gun shop and charged with one count of criminal trespass to property. Jackson was arrested when he refused to move away from the entrance to Chuck's Gun Shop in Riverdale, police said.
Jackson is nothing more than a media whore. More and more, Jackson is attacking the legal ownership and sale of firearms. The Buckeye Firearms Association recently addressed the anti-gun Jackson in an article that is available here.
6/21/07: Jacksonville, Florida: Man Fired After Rescuing Gunshot Victim
From the article:
It was last week when Bruley heard gunshots in the middle of the night outside his apartment. He says he grabbed his shotgun and went to help.
Finding his neighbor Tonnetta Lee with a gunshot wound in her leg, he tried to stop the bleeding until paramedics arrived.
Also from the article:
Colin worked for the Oaks at Mill Creek apartment complex where he also lives.
He says the very same day as the shooting and rescue his boss gave him a notice, saying he had "demonstrated extremely poor judgement responding to this situation" and he was told he was fired.
In a statement from the Village Green Companies, which owns the complex, President George Quay says, "we do not condone residents or associates jeapordizing their safety or the safety of others by intervening in police matters. Our policy does not permit weapons of any kind at the workplace for the safety of all."
This is an outrage! Bruley should be rewarded for his actions, not fired.
6/21/07: National: Your Doctor Could Put You On No-Gun List
From the article:
The plan allows names to be entered into the NICS system based solely on a physician's diagnosis or prescription of a medication: adults who have taken Ritalin and soldiers with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder would be classified as mentally ill and given the same opportunity to own firearms as convicted felons: None.
Gun Owners of America is one of only a few organizations alerting consumers to the implications.
"Under this bill, based solely on a diagnosis of a psychiatrist, an American's name could be dumped into the National Criminal Instant Check (NICS) system," said GOA Executive Director Larry Pratt, who called the plan "conviction by diagnosis."
This sounds like an extremely scary gun control bill to me, what about you?
6/14/07: Twin Falls, Idaho: Gang Premieres to Full House
From the article:
Yesterday evening, JPFO's latest documentary "The Gang" ( www.thegangmovie.com) premiered at the Lamphouse Theater in Twin Falls, Idaho to a full audience. The showing was organized by Ryan Horsley of Red's Trading Post, a recent target of the BATFE (see ww.jpfo.org/redstradingpost.htm ). Among those in attendance was Richard Celata of KT Ordnance, another victim of BATFE abuse who also appears in the film.
The Gang is an amazing documentary, and I highly reccomend it. A review of "The Gang" by the Buckeye Firearms Association can be read here.
