By Chris Chumita

There are more stories pertaining to our gun rights in Ohio then we can possibly draw attention to with individual daily commentary. But they are all worthy of mention.

What follows is our review of headlines from around the state though a pro-gun rights lens.

From violence in Cleveland to a cannon shell in West Toledo, these articles should be a part of your required reading!

9/8/07: Cleveland, Ohio: Teen Shot During Argument

From the article:

A teen was shot in the abdomen after an argument Friday night on the city's east side.

Police said there was an argument at East 124th Street and St. Clair Avenue at Wing King Open Pit Barbecue about 8:30 p.m.

More violence rocks the city that seems more focused on going after law-abiding gun owners instead of using Ohio's strict state wide gun laws to go after violent criminals.

9/7/07: National: Senate Votes To Address U.N. Gun Ban Crusade

From the article:

By an overwhelming 81-10 vote, the Senate passed Sen. Vitter’s amendment to prevent any funding to foreign organizations that infringe upon the Second Amendment rights of lawful American citizens. Any organization that adopts a policy anathema to the U.S. Constitution’s Second Amendment would no longer be eligible for U.S. financial assistance—including the U.N.

YES! it is about time that our government takes a more proactive approach to fighting the United Nations.

9/7/07: Kent, Ohio: Kent Campus On Edge After Alleged Sexual Assault

From the article:

Kent State University students are on edge after they learned an attack may have happened on campus.

Our college campuses are criminal protection zones. The gun ban only make it safer for rapists and other criminals to prey upon the innocent.

9/7/07: Cleveland, Ohio: Mayor Says New State Gun Law Needed To Stop Violence

From the artilce:

With a recent string of fatal shootings in Cleveland, Mayor Frank Jackson is pointing the finger toward Columbus, saying state lawmakers are partly at fault.

Gun laws only hinder law-abiding gun owners. Criminals are criminals, because they don't obey the law. Besides, there is already a state law that prohibits minors from possessing guns.

9/6/07: National: NRA Director Says Five Rounds Is Enough

From the article:

And now, NRA Director Joaquin Jackson has publically stated that magazine capacities should be limited to five rounds and that "assault weapons [sic] should be limited to military or police." That's right -- a director of the supposedly pro-gun NRA wants to take YOUR semi-automatic rifles away.

5 rounds is not enough, and us regular "citizens" should be allowed to possess so called assault rifles.

9/6/07: West Toledo, Ohio: Cannon Shell Found In West Toledo

From the article:

The men were working on a lawn at Emmick Drive and Crosby Way about 5:30 p.m. when they grabbed the refrigerator and found what they believed to be an M-50 mortar round, Ottawa Hills Officer Yarko Kuk said.

They called 911, but tired of waiting for a response to the scene and about 6:30 p.m. they decided to drive the ¾ of a mile to the Ottawa Hills police station, with the cannon shell on the front seat of their pickup truck, Officer Kuk said.

If we can't expect a quick response after finding a live mortar round under a refrigerator, why would anyone depend on 911 to save their life in a violent attack?
