11/27/07: Pepper Pike, Ohio: Police Investigate Rape Of Local College Student

From the article:

Authorities in Pepper Pike are investigating an alleged sexual assault of a student at Ursuline College.

The assault was reported on Sunday and allegedly involved the student and a family member at one of the college's residence halls.

This is exactly why a gun ban on campuses are a bad idea. They leave law-abiding citizens vulnerable and unprotected.

11/24/07: Statewide: Ohio Deer Hunters Set For Opening Of Gun Season

From the article:

It’s about 2 in the afternoon the Friday after Thanksgiving. One holiday is out of the way and another about to happen. And C&S Guns on South 2nd Street is packed.

No, we’re not talking about the Christmas bargain hunters stalking Black Friday. We’re talking about those other kind of hunters counting down until Monday when for one week it’s deer-gun season in the state of Ohio.

And Friday the hunters were out in full force stocking up on supplies and the requisite licenses, getting ready to bag their dream buck.

Good luck and stay safe! Hopefully you'll get the "big one" this year.

11/22/07: Colfax Township, Michigan: Man Says He Shot Cow After Mistaking It For Coyote

From the article:

A northern Michigan man said he shot a neighbor's cow after mistaking it for a coyote.

Also from the article:

The undersheriff in Benzie County said he doesn't see how anyone could confuse a 1,400-pound pregnant cow with a coyote -- which typically weighs between 20 and 45 pounds.

That I don't know how anyone can confuse a cow for a coyote either. This guy looks like he is going to get charged as he should be.

11/22/07: Newark, Ohio: Pilots Dodge Deer While Attempting To Land At Airport

From the article:

Officials at the Newark Heath Licking County Airport said they had to obtain a special permit to help with the deer population.

Also from the article:

"We've had a few incidents where planes are coming in at critical times and here comes a deer or two or a small herd," said Aviation Works President George Fackler.

Hunting is a very good way to keep the population of deer under control. Deer will endanger the lives of drivers and pilots unless we keep their population under control.

11/22/07: Toledo, Ohio: Family Preparing For Thanksgiving Meal Shot; 1 Killed

From the article:

Police said the people inside the home were preparing their Thanksgiving dinner when someone entered the home and started shooting.

Home invasions cab happen anywhere at anytime. We must be prepared to defend ourselves at all times, because criminals do not take the holidays off.

11/20/07: Newark, Ohio: Man Arrested In Attempted Rape Of Elderly Woman

From the article:

A local man has been charged with the attempted rape of a 94-year-old Newark woman after he allegedly tricked her into allowing him into her home Friday night.

The victim told Newark police the suspect, later identified as Fred Hottinger, 49, last known address 118 Leonard Ave., Newark, knocked on her door about 8 p.m.

He asked to use the victim's phone, citing car trouble, but as she went to retrieve the phone he physically assaulted her and dragged her into a bedroom, where he fondled her and tried to remove her clothing, according to a Newark police press release and court documents.

The victim said she was able to fight him off and he left.

Thankfully, the victim was not seriously hurt and was able to fight off her attacker. Unfortunately, a large percentage of the elderly are often not able to physically fight off their attacker, who is often younger and stronger. That is why a firearm is often a valuable self-defense tool for the elderly.

11/20/07: Florence, Kentucky: Tri-State Gun Show Loophole Still Open

From the article:

When News 5 took a hidden camera to a Boone County gun show last weekend, it took no time to find someone willing to sell us an AK-47 with little or no hassle.

It has been proven that gun shows are NOT a common way for criminals to get guns. Don't be fooled, the gun-grabbers idea of closing the so-called "Gun Show Loophole" will eventually close down all of the gun shows. It is NOT about preventing crime.
