Pro-Gun Punditry: Wednesday's Buckeye State Roundabout
By Chris Chumita
There are more stories pertaining to our gun rights in Ohio then we can possibly draw attention to with individual daily commentary. But they are all worthy of mention.
What follows is our review of headlines from around the state though a pro-gun rights lens.
From a school stabbing to a senior citizen fighting back, these articles should be a part of your required reading!
What follows is several days of headlines accompanied by short, concise pro-gun analysis.
3/7/08: Toledo, Ohio: Police: Student Stabbed At School In Money Dispute
From the article:
- Police said a teenager was stabbed with a pocket knife at a Toledo high school after he and another boy argued over money owed. Police say a 15-year-old Start High School student stabbed a 16-year-old boy in the abdomen with a pocket knife around noon Thursday and also injured his own hand. Both boys are freshman.
Our unarmed teachers and school staff are unable to adequately defend themselves and students from violent offenders.
3/5/08: Ohio's 10th Congressional District: Kucinich Wins Chance To Keep U.S. Rep. Seat
From the article:
- U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich declared victory in the race to keep his seat in the 10th Congressional District Tuesday night.
Anti-gun Dennis Kucinich won the primary. He will be facing pro-gun Jim Trakas in November. Hopefully, Trakas will finally be the one to defeat Kucinich.
3/5/08: Cleveland, Ohio: Teen Fatally Shot In Head
From the article:
- Officials said the shooting happened after an altercation with a manager of Superior Food Mart, located at East 89th Street.
Also from the article:
- The manager was detained by police and questioned. He was released.
Based upon the information that is currently available, it appears that this is another example of a hard working store owner defending himself from the thugs that are terrorizing the city.
3/4/08: Salt Lake City, Utah: Legislators' Lapel Pin Signals A Politician Is Packing Heat
From the article:
- The pins serve as subtle reminders of the commitment that many lawmakers have to the issue of gun rights - to a point that is curious to some of their colleagues.
It is nice to see that some politicians do not try to hide their support of the Second Amendment.
2/26/08: Akron, Ohio: Police: Man Stabbed To Death By Neighbor
From the article:
- Emil Varhola, 81, was stabbed to death and his 77-year-old wife, Mary was hospitalized.
This is another case where a firearm could have saved the life of the one victim and prevented the other victim from being injured. A firearm is a great equalizer, especially for the elderly.
2/25/08: Cleveland, Ohio: Officers Told Not To Accept Gang Impact Squad Duty
From the article:
- The Cleveland police union is urging its members not to accept an assignment to the gang impact squad until a grievance the union filed can be settled.
An active gang impact squad could make a difference, because Cleveland is being rocked by violent crime, gang activity, and a rising homicide rate. However, it seems that the Cleveland police union is too busy worrying about internal politics, instead of protecting and serving the citizens and visitors to the city. This is just another reason why you cannot depend on the police to protect you.
2/15/08: Dallas/Fort Worth Texas: 80-Year-Old John Wayne Fan Puts Attacker In Hospital
From the article:
- Investigators say they were definitely going to rob him - possibly even kill him. But an 80-year-old North Texan wasn't about to let that happen, so he took action. One of the suspects is in the hospital and both are facing charges.
This is another excellent example of a warrior who refused to be a victim, and is alive thanks to his firearm.
