Registration ends April 10 for CMP Smallbore Postal match

Those wanting to compete in a rifle competition nationally without having to travel have until April 10 to register for the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) Smallbore Postal match.

Open to adults and juniors, the match features three-position, prone sling, and prone F-class competitions, all fired from the competitor's home range at a distance of 50 feet. Targets are scored electronically using the Orion scoring system.

The match is an opportunity for juniors and adults to test their skills, build marksmanship experience, and compete for recognition — without having to travel.

“We’re excited to provide a way for athletes to engage in meaningful competition from their local clubs and ranges,” Brad Donoho, CMP smallbore manager, said in a Jan. 31 article by CMP staff writer Ashley Dugan. “The Postal Program is a great way to challenge yourself, track your progress and be part of the national shooting sports community.”

How it works

  • Participants receive official targets and instructions by mail upon registration.
  • Once targets are received, participants will fire the postal match at their home range.
  • Once completed, targets will be submitted by mail for official scoring by the CMP.
  • Results will be posted online, allowing competitors to see where they rank nationally.

Cost to participate is $5 per competitor, per event. Both individuals and teams are invited to join.

Dates to remember

  • April 10: Online registration ends.
  • April 21: Targets must be received by CMP.
  • April 25: Preliminary results are posted.
  • April 30: All results are final.
