REMINDER: The Ohio CHL license renewal extension ENDS on June 30
Last year, Governor DeWine signed House Bill 614, with an amendment to extend Concealed Handgun License (CHL) expiration dates.
Buckeye Firearms Association (BFA) helped the Ohio legislature draft and pass the amendment to address the alarming logjam of people struggling to get their CHL applications and renewals processed at that time.
Here are the two changes that amendment made:
- If your license is scheduled to expire between March 9, 2020 and June 30, 2021, the expiration date is extended by 90 days or until June 30, 2021, whichever is later.
- Until June 30, 2021, you can apply for a license or renew a license at ANY sheriff office in Ohio. You are not limited to your home county or an adjacent county.
This extension ends June 30, 2021, about 3 weeks from now. After that, things go back to normal.
So if you've been putting off your renewal, your time is running out. To keep your CHL current, I recommend that you make an appointment at a Sheriff's office to renew as soon as you can.
Yes, we continue to work on Constitutional Carry, but this won't pass before the extension ends on June 30.
